Toulon On The Verge Of Signing Facundo Isa Ahead Of 2017/18 Season [L’Equipe]

Toulon v Leinster Rugby - Heineken Cup Quarter-Final

Possessing and ageing squad and a quickly assembled coaching team, Toulon appear to be a club undergoing a transition.

However, while most clubs look to establish some stability in such circumstances, Mourad Boudjellal has done the opposite.

Diego Domínguez’s reign as coach only lasted a few short weeks, while Boudjellal himself flirted with the idea of selling Toulon before eventually committing to the club.

Although the arrival of Mike Ford has restored some semblance of normality, speculation linking Fabien Galthié with taking over from the former Bath coach continues to surface.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding next season’s coaching line-up, Boudjellal continues to invest in Toulon’s playing squad in the hope of achieving on field success.

Indeed, earlier this season the comic book magnate promised supporters he would sign eight players so as to return Toulon to Europe’s top table. To that end, Boudjellal has already signed Chris Ashton, Hugo Bonneval, Luke McAlister, Filipo Nakosi, Semi Radradra, and Raphaël Lakafia.

According to L’Equipe, Boudjellal has moved one step closer to achieving his goal, after making Facundo Isa a substantial contract offer.

The Argentinian back row forward was believed to have been close to signing for Toulouse before Boudjellal stepped in with a better offer this week.

Although Isa’s transfer has not yet been confirmed, L’Equipe don’t believe Toulouse will make a counter offer, leaving Toulon as the favourites to sign the powerful number eight.

Isa previously played for Toulon during the 2013/14 season, making one appearance for the three-time European champions before signing a contract with the Argentinian Rugby Union the following year.
