Mourad Boudjellal Tweeted an image comparing Toulon to Lance Armstrong.
After reports emerged earlier this week implicating Toulon in a doping scandal, Mourad Boudjellal typically brushed off suggestions stating, ‘no player is concerned in this affair, it’s totally unfounded information’.
Indeed Boudjellal claimed that the allegations were part of a conspiracy to undermine Bernard Laporte’s bid to become President of the French Rugby Union. The Toulon Owner argued, ‘I have a strong feeling there is a will against Toulon and a person who is running for president of the FFR’.
As odd as Boudjellal’s claim of sinister forces being at play was, last night the controversial owner Tweeted a picture of himself lying on a couch, with a number of the trophies that the club have won evident in the background.
Tel Lance Armstrong avec ses maillots jaunes, notre Président pose allongé sur un canapé avec les trophées du RCT… pic.twitter.com/mzGgw8yemj
— RCT – RC Toulon (@RCTofficiel) September 9, 2015
The image echoes that of Lance Armstrong, taken when evidence of the cyclists doping began to emerge. Indeed Boudjellal makes the comparison obvious, Tweeting both pictures alongside each other.
The caption below the images translates as, ‘Like Lance Armstrong with his yellow jerseys, our President is lying on a sofa with the trophies of the RCT’.
It seems a strange way to distance the club from doping allegations.
