At the beginning of the season Toulon found themselves at somewhat of a crossroads.
Although they had enjoyed an unprecedented period of success, Toulon possessed an aging squad who were being led by Diego Domínguez, a coach dangerously out of his depth, and worse still Mourad Boudjellal was openly considering selling the club.
However since the appointment of Mike Ford things seem to have settled down at the Stade Mayol, and Boudjellal has found renewed purpose after abandoning his plan to sell Toulon.
Indeed, throughout the last few weeks, Boudjellal has begun to overhaul Toulon’s squad by signing the likes of Hugo Bonneval and Chris Ashton from from Stade Francais and Saracens respectively.
Boudjellal’s overhaul doesn’t seem to be slowing either, after Le 10 Sport reported that 30 times capped New Zealand international, Luke McAlister, had agreed to join Toulon on a two year deal at the end of the season.
Although the signing of McAlister seems to break with Toulon’s new policy of attaining younger players, he nonetheless remains a quality operator, maintaining his position as one of Toulouse’s key players.
