Pau are building a squad to compete in the upper echelons of the Top 14.
Fresh from officially announcing the capture of Steffon Armitage yesterday, Section Paloise have today been linked with three times capped All Black, Tom Taylor.
French regional newspaper, Sud Ouest, are reporting that the utility back could join Pau this summer, after the ambitious club expressed an interest in the player. Although Taylor remains contracted to Toulon, his future at the club has been in doubt since Munster were rumoured to be interested in signing the playmaker earlier this season.
If he were to join Pau, Taylor would link up with fellow All Blacks, Conrad Smith and Colin Slade in a very dangerous looking backline. Despite only finishing 11th in the Top 14 this season, Pau are bankrolled by petroleum giants, Total.
As a result, there are few players out of the reach of coaches, Simon Mannix and Carl Hayman. Indeed, after capturing Armitage, signing Taylor would further underline the ambitions of the club based in the foothills of the Pyrénées.
Taylor’s availability comes about after Toulon themselves recruited fly halves, Francois Trinh-Duc and Pierre Bernard for next season. As Mourad Boudjellal previously declared that up to ten players could leave the Stade Mayol this season, Taylor could be another high profile victim of the enigmatic owner’s clear out.
