Since Paul O’Connell announced his retirement from rugby this morning, tributes have been flowing in from past teammates congratulating the Limerick native on a truly stellar career for Munster and Ireland.

The 36-year-old enjoyed a 14-year professional career and was capped 108 times for Ireland with 174 appearances for Munster.

Over the course of his career he compiled an impressive list of achievements, which included three Six Nations Championships, two Heineken Cups, four triple crowns, a Grandslam and he also represented the British and Irish Lions on three tours, including the 2009 tour of South Africa in which he captained the side.

He did not, however during his illustrious career ever play for the Ivory Coast, as former Munster and Ireland teammate Ronan O’Gara astutely pointed out.
