There’s Been A Twist In The Goromaru To Toulon Story

Previously, Pundit Arena reported that Toulon were to sign Ayumu Goromaru, the Japanese full back who had impressed during the World Cup. This was after Toulon reported on their latest star signing.

However, on Monday Goromaru’s new side, the Queensland Reds, said something different. According to them, Goromaru has signed on until the end of the Super Rugby season, which will start in less than two weeks.

They have received no notification about him having signed any contract for after this season and will be negotiating with him about his future in Super Rugby.

Of course Goromaru is hot right now. He kicked brilliantly during the World Cup, scored a number of tries and was possibly the best all round full back in the competition. He was acknowledged as such when he was named the full back in the World Cup dream team.

Besides Toulon, his club Yamaha Júbilo, will also be keen to sign him again. With the Top League being played from October to February, there are few dates that clash with Super Rugby, but were he to sign with Toulon, he would have to leave Japan altogether.

Super Rugby newcomers Sunwolves will of course also be looking to sign the Japanese star full back too.
