For this week’s Throwback Thursday, Dave Gantly looks back at the illustrious career of Ireland great Ronan O’Gara.
Arguably Ireland’s all time greatest fly half, Ronan O’ Gara’s time in an Irish shirt was filled with highs and lows. From winning the Grand Slam for Ireland with a last minute drop goal to cruelly being dropped from the Irish squad, ROG has seen it all. He was the orchestrator of the Munster and Irish backlines for so many years with his tactical kicking and precision passing. Not the strongest in defence, O’Gara still put his body on the line for the cause. He was a leader and will forever be remembered by Irish and Munster fans. Now at Racing Metro as kicking coach, he has been reunited with old foe Jonathan Sexton. That can only be positive news for Irish rugby.
Thanks for the memories ROG, one of the truly great no.10s to grace not just Irish rugby, but world rugby.
