For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we look back at the historic Irish Grand Slam of 2009.
Having come so close to beating the All Blacks last weekend following a truly remarkable performance by the men in green, hopes are high for the Six Nations 2014.
Can Ireland build on that world-class performance and reach the heights of the 2009 campaign? Only time will tell but you wouldn’t bet against them. The 2009 Grand Slam epitomised bravery, skill and dedication in abundance. All characteristics which were on show in the Aviva last sunday. With Joe Schmidt at the helm, It’s exciting times for Irish rugby. If any man can get them back to their best in competitive action, It is him. They must show the consistency that was evident in that memorable 2009 campaign. After such a gut wrenching defeat to New Zealand, they will be raring to go come February 2nd.
If they show the level of performance like last weekend, securing the Six Nations may just be the start of something special in the Joe Schmidt era.
Come on you boys in green!
