Sonny Bill Williams has yet to feature in the sevens game.
Despite having never played rugby sevens and being earmarked to play at the Olympics this summer, Sonny Bill Williams has been left out of Counties Manukau sevens side for a provincial tournament in Mount Maunganui this weekend and New Zealand’s national sevens in Rotorua on January 16-17.
The news will come as a shock to many, particularly after the centre appeared to be making a massive effort to transition to the shortened variation of the game.
Indeed, Stuff.co.nz recently published an article illustrating the rigours of adapting to the training regime of New Zealand Sevens coach, Sir Gordon Tietjens.

With another All Black, Augustine Pulu, also a doubt for the national tournament later this month, questions could be raised as to the preparedness of the 15 aside players ahead of the Olympics in August.
