Marty Moore had signed for Wasps.
Writing in the Irish Independent last night, Ruaidhri O’Connor, reported that Irish head coach, Joe Schmidt, and scrum coach, Greg Feek, were forced to intervene in Marty Moore’s transfer to Wasps.
Although the tighthead had already signed for the ambitious English club, the Irish coaching duo persuaded Moore to remain at Leinster.
While this development will no doubt benefit Irish rugby, it will leave Leinster and or the IRFU having to buy out his contract.
Indeed, despite the intervention of Schmidt, The 42 believe that Leinster, and not the IRFU, will be offering Moore a new contract.
The entire saga has therefore become shambolic. Had the IRFU offered Moore a central contract or aided Leinster from the beginning, the cost would have surely been less than having to buy Moore from Wasps, one week after he signed, and handing him an improved deal at Leinster.
As O’Connor believes that Dave Kearney is currently being perused by three Premiership clubs, hopfully lessons have been learned.
