Saracens joined an elite club of just seven sides who have won multiple European Cups with a deserved victory over Clermont yesterday in Murrayfield.
The London side had too much for the Top 14 opposition, winning out on a scoreline of 28-17.
Chris Ashton played an instrumental role in the campaign, and set Sarries on the right track with a first-half try in the decider. However, the former England winger will depart the club after this season, making a move to Toulon.
Saracens are bringing in Liam Williams as a replacement, but Ashton’s record speaks for itself. He became the record try-scorer in European rugby yesterday, rising above Vincent Clerc with a 37th try in the competition.
As the celebrations kicked into full swing in the changing rooms, the team had a song to mark the 30-year-old winger’s departure to the south of France, to the tune of Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start The Fire.
