Sale Sharks already boast one veteran scrum-half in their ranks, having awarded Ireland and Munster legend Peter Stringer the accolade of Player of the Season. However, it has been announced this morning that Stringer will be joined at the Premiership club next season by former Wales and Lions star Mike Phillips.

The 33 year-old retired from international rugby after the World Cup with 99 caps to his name, in a career that spanned 13 years.

Sale Sharks will be the sixth professional club Phillips has played for, after stints with Llanelli, Cardiff, Ospreys, Bayonne and Racing Metro.

The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

Will we see Phillips making a late dash for Lions inclusion?
