Quad Cooper will return to Australia after leaving Toulon.

Australia’s Daily Telegraph have today announced Quade Cooper has signed new deal with the Australian Rugby Union, after leaving Toulon earlier this summer.

Although Cooper’s contract will see him remain in Australia until after the 2019 World Cup, it is not yet known with which franchise.

While the Queensland Reds remain Cooper’s most likely destination, it seems Cooper is waiting to see who will be appointed as head coach at the Suncorp Stadium before making a final decision.

The Telegraph believe that Cooper would prefer to see current co-head coach, Nick Stiles, handed the role, but Matt O’Connor Todd Blackadder and Laurie Fisher are also thought to be in the frame.

Indeed, according to an article published in The Australian yesterday, Fisher ‘is being seriously considered’ to take over at the Reds. Furthermore, Stephen Moore, who will join the Reds from the Brumbies next season, is thought to rate Fisher highly.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that O’Connor, the Reds other Co-head coach, would most likely leave the franchise if Stiles were handed the job. This would force the Reds to employ a new backs coach, something which ‘is clearly of major significance for Cooper’ according to the Telegraph.

If the coaching set up is not to Cooper’s liking, the Melbourne Rebels are waiting in the wings to sign the 58 times capped Wallaby fly half.
