Ahead of the official RBS Six Nations Player of the Tournament announcement fans have continued to have their say on the matter here at Pundit Arena.
With almost 1300 votes in the last 24 hours, the results are in. In what is expected to track closely with the official announcement, due in the next few days, it has come down to a head-to-head between England’s Joe Launchbury and Ireland’s CJ Stander.
Simply put, Stander takes it.
The Pundit Arena poll sees Ireland’s rampaging flanker amass a whopping 34% of the vote while Launchbury accounts for 22%. Trailing the pair on 12% is Scotland’s Stuart Hogg, last year’s RBS Six Nations Player of the Tournament.
Check out the full poll standings to date.
Both Launchbury and Stander were the standout players of this year’s championship, consistently turning on monumental performances in the second row and flanks respectively.
On the back of their efforts, both are now expected to be veritable certainties when British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland names his 27-man squad for the summer tour of New Zealand.
Scotland’s Hogg and France’s Louis Picamoles featured strongly during the tournament, at times giving fans awe-inspiring displays. However, it appears the consistency of the Launchbury and Stander stood out for fans, a fact reflected in the voting.
When the official RBS Six Nations results are released, it will be interesting to see just how this tallies to the Pundit Arena poll. the expectation is that with voting pouring in from across the six nations, the likes of Picamole, Camille Lopez and Sergio Parisse will all see a stronger showing.
