Player Who Called Romain Poite A Cheat Handed Career Ending Ban

Gloucester Rugby v Connacht Rugby - European Champions Cup Play-Off

Silvère Tian was found guilty of using threatening actions or words against a match official.

Oyonnax fullback, Silvére Tian, has been handed a 15 month ban by the Ligue Nationale de Rugby, after being found guilty of using threatening actions or words against a match official.

The incident, which occurred during Oyonnax’s 27-20 defeat at the hands of Grenoble earlier this month, saw Tian not only call Romain Poite a cheat, but attempt to chase the referee down the tunnel after the full time whistle.

The Ivory Coast international was initially given a yellow card after infringing at a breakdown, but immediately protested against Poite’s decision. According the Rugbyrama, in the course of his interaction with the match official, Tian called Poite a cheat and was consequently sent off.

As if that was not enough, Tian had to be restrained by Oyonnax staff as he attempted to follow Poite down the tunnel at full time.

Given that the full back is 35 years of age and his contract with Oyonnax is due to expire in June 2017, the 15 month ban handed down to Tian will most likely bring an end to his professional career.
