Referee Nigel Owens is known for not taking any prisoners, and he proved on Saturday night that this even extends to the ball boys if need be.
Officiating in Leinster’s Pro12 clash with Scarlets at the RDS, Owens was surprised to find a ball strike him while his back was turned and in mid-conversation with a couple of Scarlets players. Without even taking a second to think, Owens turned and brandished a yellow card in a vintage bit of Nigel Owens banter.

Seeing the funny side of the incident, the Welshman then went to the touchline to share a joke with the ball boy, who was spared the sin bin and instead returned to his post while the game continued.

Leinster, incidentally, won the match 45-9, running in seven tries against the Welsh side to continue their fine form in this year’s Pro12 tournament.
