Owen Farrell won’t want to see this again!
Saracens beat Clermont Auvergne 28-17 in the final of the European Champions Cup, as they now go in hunt of a double-double, hoping to add a second consecutive Premiership title to their list of accolades.
While it was a marvellous day for the London club, Steve Hansen and the All Blacks may have taken away a thing or two as they watched Owen Farrell in action.
It must be said that the Sarries out-half was instrumental throughout the game and indeed the season, as his side joined the pantheon of great European rugby teams. However, his questionable defence in the lead-up to Nick Abendanon’s try offers New Zealand, and indeed Warren Gatland, food for thought.
England’s first centre was swatted aside as he attempted to make a cover tackle.
While it is not clear whether he will feature at first centre or out-half for the Lions team in New Zealand, he is one of the more assured starters on the test side.
However, the All Blacks may plan to target him as his defensive frailties were badly exposed today.
