Eddie Jones will be a worried man this lunchtime, as he sweats on the fitness of Owen Farrell ahead of Saturday’s crunch Calcutta Cup game in Twickenham.

The Red Rose are bidding to equal New Zealand’s record of 18 consecutive test wins, but the loss of place-kicker Farrell would throw a major spanner in the works.

England have not lost to Scotland since 2008, but the Scots look to have a new lease of life under Vern Cotter this season.

Having accounted for Ireland and Wales in Murrayfield, the Scots are looking for a first win in Twickenham since 1983, and in the process a Triple Crown which would bridge a 33 year gap.

If Farrell misses out, this will leave Jones with a serious selection headache.

The obvious switch would be to bring Ben Te’o┬áinto the starting XV. However, Elliot Daly can also move into the midfield, prompting a switch around in the back three.

Some England fans may be concerned about George Ford if he were to be given the place-kicking responsibilities. He struggled with the role against Wales last summer, and Farrell is a proven performer from the tee.
