Parramatta Eels back Semi Radradra was arrested and charged with domestic violence offences shortly after returning to Australia on Friday. The winger was travelling back from Fiji with code hopper and old teammate Jarryd Hayne but ended up in the custody of the New South Wales police.
Stuff reported that Radrada had been given leave by the Eels to visit family in Fiji for two weeks. On his way back, it turned out he was on the same plane as Hayne, who was on his way back to Australia for a weekend with his family and a break from the Fijian preparations for the Rio Olympics.
After landing in Sydney, the police immediately arrested Radrada. The New South Wales police later issued the following statement on the matter:
“About 10.30pm yesterday, a 24-year-old man was arrested after disembarking from an international flight at Sydney Airport.
“He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was questioned in relation to three allegations of domestic violence that occurred in 2014 and 2015.”
The statement continued: “As a result of investigations the man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm domestic violence and two counts of common assault domestic violence.
“The man was also served with an apprehended violence order.
“He was given conditional bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 5 July 2016.”
The allegations come after a video complaint by Radrada’s former partner Perina Ting, who claims the league player assaulted her a number of times over 2014 and 2015.
As bail was granted, Radrada continues to be available for selection for his Parramatta Eels side.
