Nigel Owens is the gift that keeps on giving…

New Zealand ran out 57-point victors today over South Africa in the Rugby Championship, as the All Blacks held their great rivals scoreless.

It was a record defeat for the Springboks, as they face some serious questions as to whether they are capable of turning around their fortunes for the remainder of the tournament.

While many expected a close encounter, how things played out on the field could certainly be described as disappointing.

However, one aspect of the game which certainly did not disappoint was referee Nigel Owens. The Welsh officiator is well known for his wit and one-liners, along with top-class refereeing.

This morning, he was on song, pulling the strings and delivering his verdicts with authority and a hint of humour.

In one instance, New Zealand captain Kieran Read jumped the gun, telling Owens that they would take the scrum. The ref was quick to shoot him down!

“You’ll take what I decide!”

He then went on to discipline Kiwi lock Brodie Retallick in a truly efficient manner.

“I’m not going to argue with you. I’m just asking you. Is that clear?”

Rugby would be a much duller sport without Owens!
