Nigel Owens Sergio Parisse

Nigel Owens was refereeing Leicester Tigers’ win over Stade Francais in the quarter-final of the European Champions Cup last Sunday, which the English side eventually won to secure themselves a home semi-final to Racing 92.

Stade came to Welford Road with some big names in tow, none more so than Sergio Parisse, but were sent packing as the Premiership outfit delivered a comprehensive display.

Owens was not impressed with the Italian skipper’s behaviour on the field, and on two occasions, he was forced to take the number 8 aside and give him a scolding.

“Sergio, I have a lot of respect for you. But…”

This is the latest in a long line of examples why Nigel Owens is the greatest human being in existence.

The authority and respect he commands from men twice his size is admirable, and he embodies why rugby can set an example for all other sports.

What a legend!
