New Zealanders Want Cane Over McCaw At Openside & No Kaino, SBW or Dagg

New Zealand news site recently conducted a poll with their readers to determine what New Zealanders thought the All Blacks World Cup starting side should be.

The results were surprising to say the least, with Sam Cane getting the nod over captain Richie McCaw at openside, while there is no place in the starting XV for Sonny Bill Williams and no place in the matchday squad for All Black regulars Israel Dagg and Jerome Kaino.

Williams, Dagg and Kaino all started for the All Blacks last weekend in New Zealand’s 39-18 win over Argentina in the opening game of the Rugby Championship, but there is no place for the trio in the New Zealand’s public starting XV with New Zealanders preferring Malaki Fekitoa, Ben Smith and Same Cane respectively. Stuff readers also opted to select McCaw at blindside flanker alongside Cane, with Liam Messam filling in on the bench in the absence of 2011  IRB International Player of the Year nominee Jerome Kaino who misses out completely.

For Stuff contributor Paul Biddle the starting XV pretty much picks itself with Nehe Milner-Skudder starting over Dagg, Fekiota getting the nod over Williams and Conrad Smith and Cane edging out Messam and Kaino. Hurricanes outhalf Beauden Barrett also misses out with Colin Slade making the bench instead.
