New Zealand is gearing up for the highly anticipated return of the British and Irish Lions and ahead of the first Test between the two sides, the All Blacks have unveiled their new jersey to go along with the new crest that revealed on Monday.
Given that the famous All Black strip is, well, all black, creating a new iteration of the famous threads poses something of a challenge for kit manufacturers Adidas. Having just extended their 18-year partnership with New Zealand rugby until 2023, it appears that they have taken the approach of ‘it is ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.
Featuring the new crest which tips the hat to the long-standing relationship between the Lions and the All Blacks, there is, once again, a black canvas with the white logos of Adidas and AIG adorning the new jersey.
For this commemorative strip, however, there features some opaque triangle shading in the main body of the jersey, a hat tip to the famous fern that has adorned the jersey for so long.
As of yet All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen has not named his squad that will wear this new jersey for the three clashes with the Lions but it is fair to say that whoever is selected, they will do so along with what will surely be a great many fans on the streets and in the stands as Lions tour fever takes over.
