Munster have confirmed the make up of Rassie Erasmus’ coaching team.
After appointing Rassie Erasmus as Director of Rugby for next season, Munster have today announced the coaching ticket that will serve under the South African.
Although Jacques Nienaber’s appointment had already been publicised, Munster have today confirmed the South African would take on the role as defence coach after signing a three year contract.
Having previously held similar positions with the Western Province, Stormers, Junior Springboks, South African Schools and the Springboks, the addition of Nienaber is certainly a coup for Munster.
Felix Jones is also joining the set up in a technical coaching role, focusing on developing the team’s attacking fundamental skills. Jerry Flannery continues as scrum coach for at least another season, while Anthony Foley will assume responsibility for line-outs and the breakdown.
Although Erasmus will serve as Munster’s new Director of Rugby, his primary coaching role will see him take charge of the attack. For Munster’s new set up to work, they would clearly have to define the roles of both Erasmus and Foley so as to avoid potential conflict.
Having confirmed the coaching ticket, all eyes will now turn to potential player recruitment.
