Michael Cheika is set to include Taniela Tupou in his Wallabies squad.

Following a very difficult season, Micheal Cheika is planning to revitalise the Wallabies squad by introducing a number of young players ahead of their Grand Slam tour.

To that end, The Courier Mail have reported that Cheika is planning to include 20 year-old Taniela Tupou in his squad for next month’s tour. Better known as the “Tongan Thor”, Tupou has become something of an internet sensation over recent years, despite only making three cameo appearances for the Queensland Reds last season.

Weighing in at a massive 134kg, Tupou is knwon as a massive ball carrier and has ripped through defences at underage level. However, despite his immense size, the Tongan born player remains unproven at Super Rugby level, never mind international standard.

The same article suggests that Cheika could also include 19 year-old Reds winger winger Izaia Perese in the Australian touring party.

Despite not having featured for the Reds last season, Perese starred for Queensland County during the National Rugby Championship, scoring four tries and stepping past a tournament high 36 defenders.

Another player who could also feature in Cheika’s squad is Marika Koroibete, who only recently joined the Melbourne Rebels from NRL side, Melbourne Storm.
