Michael Cheika Cuts Six Players From The Wallabies Squad

New Zealand v Australia - Final: Rugby World Cup 2015

Michael Cheika had named a 39 man squad for the test series against England.

When Michael Cheika originally named a 39 man squad for Australia’s upcoming three match series against England, he did so with the intention of cutting it’s size after overseeing the Wallabies first training sessions.

Although few surprise inclusions were expected, Matt Giteau’s exclusion and Kurtley Beale’s injury created an opening at inside centre.

While the Australian media have called on Cheika to pair Israel Folau and Tevita Kuridrani in midfield, the Wallabies coach seems to be toying with the idea of maintaining a creative presence, after selecting, Reece Hodge, Karmichael Hunt and Christian Lealiifano in his shortened squad.

Nevertheless, Reece Hodge’s continued presence in Cheika’s squad does come as a surprise, as the 21 year old has only made 9 appearances for the Melbourne Rebels since making his debut against the Western Force earlier this season.

Despite the fact that Cheika convinced Leroy Houston to leave Bath and return to the Queensland Reds, the big number eight has been cut from the squad along with Toulon bound Liam Gill, James Hanson, Adam Coleman, Eto Nabuli and Joe Powell.
