Matt Toomua Joins Premiership Club

The Wallabies World Cup star has agreed to move to England.

Although Brumbies and Australia star, Matt Toomua, had been linked with a move to Wasps earlier this week, this afternoon The Sydney Morning Herald have reported that he has agreed to sign for the Leicester Tigers.

The newspaper have revealed that the fly half/centre will join the Tigers at the end of 2016, after exercising a get-out clause in the final year of his Brumbies contract.

The 25 year old signed a three year deal with the Tigers, leaving the door open for a potential return in time for the 2019 World Cup. However Toomua has claimed that this was not a factor in his decision.

I haven’t looked that far ahead [to the 2019 World Cup], I’m committing to a club for a period of time and I want to do the best there without feeling I have one foot left at home.

It is believed that Toomua turned down a flexible contract with the ARU which would have allowed him to take a sabbatical overseas.
