There has been much speculation over the future of Sonny Bill Williams.
Earlier this month we reported that Sonny Bill Williams was unlikely to remain in New Zealand after the Olympic Games in Rio.
At the time it was believed that the double World Cup winner would return to the NRL, after the Sydney Roosters released Michael Jennings from his contract.
The Rooster coach, Brian Canavan, added fuel to such rumours telling Australia’s Daily Telegraph, ‘If Sonny decides to come back to rugby league, we’d love to be his club of choice’.
However it now appears that Toulon are in pole position to land Williams, with La Provence reporting that the French giants are in negotiations with the centre.
Having previously played with Mourad Boudjellal’s team between 2008 and 2010, a return to Toulon would not come as too much of a surprise, and would be consistent with rumours that we also reported on in December.
If Sonny Bill does sign for the European Champions, his intriguing battle with Ma’a Nonu for the number 12 jersey would recommence.
