Massive Injury Blow For Wasps As Dai Young Confirms Recovery Time For Sam Jones

Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young has revealed that backrower Sam Jones will be out of action for five months following the double injury he sustained in England’s training camp earlier this week.

The 24-year-old flanker, who has been in imperious form this season, broke his leg whilst taking part in a judo session during England’s training camp in Brighton. He also suffered a nasty ankle injury during the three-day training camp.

His form had led the Aylesbury-born star to be mentioned as a contender to start on the openside for the Red Rose this autumn but Jones’ hopes of making his international debut during November have been scuppered with the news that he will be out until March.

Young, who has seen his side make an outstanding start to the season, expressed his clear disappointment for his charge,

“Unfortunately, as well as breaking his leg he’s had a significant ankle injury, which means he’s going to be out for around five months, which is obviously a disaster.

“The biggest disappointment, without a shadow of a doubt, is for Sam. He’s worked his socks off to get into contention for England and we’re all frustrated for Sam missing out.”

Since making his debut for Wasps in 2010, the former England U20 man has made over 100 appearances for the club and was a member of the successful England Saxons squad which toured South Africa during the summer.

The news rounded off a bad week for Eddie Jones as both Jack Nowell and Anthony Watson also suffered injuries during the camp.

Nowell is expected to be out for a number of weeks and may miss the whole autumn series after tearing a quadricep, while Watson is expected to miss the campaign after suffering a broken jaw.

England kick off their autumn series against South Africa on November 5th before taking on Fiji the following week, and finishing off their campaign against Argentina on November 26.
