Watch: Incredible Moment Of Sportsmanship As Opponent Protects Injured Player

Rugby is renowned for the sportsmanship on display; be it respect for the referee, regard for the opposition, or indeed the spirit in which the game is played.

Last week, Lyon were playing against Toulouse in the Top 14. The home side ultimately lost the game, and their problems were compounded with the news that number 8 Virgile Bruni will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

In the first half as Lyon were desperately defending their line, Bruni sustained an injury, and with the ensuing ruck in close proximity, there was a danger that players could fall on him which could make matters worse.

However, the quick thinking of Australian flanker Tala Gray ensured otherwise. The Toulouse back-rower saw that Bruni was in distress, and instead of continuing with the game, covered the injured party making sure that he would not be injured further.

Take a look at the remarkable clip below.

It’s great to see such camaraderie between players on the field, and fair play to Gray for having the awareness to protect the injured Bruni!
