Following a year in the Championship, London Irish are back in the big time. After their relegation from the Premiership 12 months ago, the Exiles were widely expected to bounce back.

The Reading-based side sealed their promotion tonight with a thrilling victory over Yorkshire Carnegie on a scoreline of 55-48.

There was widespread joy that one of England’s biggest clubs is back in the top tier.

While it will be considered a successful season, they now must build if they are to survive in the Premiership next year.
