Worcester are continuing to look for high profile signings.
Writing in the The Irish Times are this morning, Gerry Thornley has reported that the Worcester Warriors have made an audacious offer for Lions loosehead prop Cian Healy, with the Premiership side said to have offered the Leinster front row a contract worth ‘substantially more’ than his current deal with the IRFU.
However, Irish Rugby officials are not panicked by Worcester’s three year contract offer, as negotiations are not at an advanced stage. Nevertheless, despite beating off recent interest in Keith Earls, both Leinster and the IRFU will want to avoid losing another front row after Marty Moore signed for Wasps.
Indeed, at 28 years of age and with 56 caps under his belt, Healy has much to offer Ireland, despite his recent injury record. The loosehead just about made Ireland’s World Cup squad after recovering from serious neck surgery last May.
It would therefore seem somewhat of a risk for Worcester to offer a player who has only made 12 starts for Leinster and Ireland in the last two seasons a substantial contract.
