Virimi Vakatawa’s contract is due to expire this summer.
When Guy Noves named Virimi Vakatawa in the French team to face Italy last weekend, eyebrows were raised by various pundits. Nevertheless, despite not having played 15 aside rugby in two years, the big Fijian winger illustrated his pace, power and agility throughout the game.
As a result, Vakatawa is now very much in demand, with a host of Top 14 clubs looking to take advantage of the fact that his contract with the French 7s squad is due to expire this summer.
While the list of sides includes the usual suspects of Toulon, Toulouse, and the ambitious Lyon, L’equipe have also reported that the Northampton Saints are chasing the powerful winger.
Although Vakatawa did impress last weekend, it must be remembered that he has only featured in one international test match, however that does not seem to be putting off the Saints, who seem to be looking to create a French enclave at the club, after announcing the capture of Louis Picamoles earlier this season.
