Twitter Reacts As Leinster Pummel Glasgow At The RDS To Secure Home Quarter-Final In Champions Cup

Leinster absolutely ran riot at the RDS this afternoon, pummeling Glasgow to a 55-19 defeat to maintain their perfect record in Pool 3 of the Champions Cup and guarantee themselves a home quarter-final.

A Jordi Murphy try opened the scoring for the home side just eight minutes in and Johnny Sexton duly converted to give Leinster a 7-0 lead. But Glasgow were back on level terms within ten minutes, as Niko Matawalu crossed the whitewash and Peter Horne tagged on the extra two.

From there on out, however, it was a slaughter.

Tries from Isa Nacewa, Sean Cronin and Scott Fardy secured the bonus point for Leinster by the 34th minute and the eastern province tagged on a fifth try before the sides even reached the break, this time Sexton was the one to dot down.

All this meant that Leo Cullen’s men went in at half-time with a 34-7 lead.

There was some respite for Glasgow at the beginning of the second half at least, as it took Leinster some 16 minutes to add to their already impressive tally. Isa Nacewa got them going again with a try, however, which was subsequently converted by Sexton’s replacement Ross Byrne. Glasgow managed to grab one back through Adam Ashe on the hour, but Leinster ruthlessly responded just minutes later, James Lowe scoring their seventh try.

Glasgow continued to have a go and they found another consolation with ten minutes to play, as Matawalu went over for his second.

The merciless Leinster had the last laugh, however, as they powered toward the Glasgow line with a tremendous maul in the embers of the game before Scott Fardy made a move and plonked down over the whitewash for his second try.

Byrne tagged on two more points to complete the scoring and maintain his 100% record from the tee for the day.

The win and the bonus moved Leinster to 23 points, some nine ahead of nearest Pool 3 rivals – the Exeter Chiefs, who battered Montpellier 41-10 at Sandy Park yesterday.

Here is a sample of the reaction to Leinster’s utter domination at the RDS…
