After Munster’s loss to Saracens yesterday all hopes of and Irish side making it to the Champions Cup final were pinned on Leinster.
Despite being down 15-3 at half-time the eastern province took the game to their French opponents following the interval and a try from Garry Ringrose inside the final 15 minutes bridged the gap between the sides to just two points.
A penalty and drop-goal from Camille Lopez soon after, however, quickly brought Leinster back down to earth, with the game eventually finishing on a scoreline of 27-22.
It’s been a disappointing weekend for Irish rugby, but there are signs that the standard is beginning to rise again, and two fighting displays this weekend from Munster and Leinster will not be forgotten quickly.
Here is the reaction following a dramatic day at the Stade de Gerland.
Well done Clermont hope they hope the shite out of Saracens. Brave effort by Leinster after a shocking start they will come again. #asmvlei
