Two giants of European rugby played out a tense and nail-biting battle this evening in Welford Road, as Leicester Tigers denied Munster a famous victory at the death.
Despite going down 38-0 at Thomond Park last week, the English side dug deep to secure a memorable win over the two-time European champions.
In a game that didn’t quite spring to life until late on, Munster were chasing the Tigers’ lead when a breakaway meant that Simon Zebo had to cover back. However controversially the TMO felt that Zebo could have pulled out of a challenge before the ball was kicked, and a yellow card was awarded.
That’s a joke… ? yellow card? ?

If the TMO was any good he’d be on the pitch with a fucking whistle. #LEIvMUN clown

AWFUL decision by the ref to ‘yellow card’ Simon Zebo. He has probably just handed the game to Leicester. Poor.

Terrible reffing there… TMO making Ref change his mind to send @SimonZebo to the bin. Have these clowns even played the game?

Nonetheless, the brave 14 men of Munster pushed forward and Niall Scannell finished off a well-worked team try. It looked like they had done just enough to get the win, after an ugly conversion from Tyler Bleyendaal saw them into a one point lead.
Munster try. Niall Scannell with the close range score. Bleyendaal just converts. Munster lead 15-16. Three mins to go.

However, Leicester don’t hold such an impressive European record at Welford Road for nothing, and stopped the Irishmen with a late penalty from Owen Williams in his own half.
Owen Williams you absolute legend #LEIvMUN
