Joe Schmidt Names Ireland Squad For Six Nations Tie With England

Amid a mounting injury crisis with Mike McCarthy, Seán O’Brien and Dave Kearney all ruled out for the rest of the Six Nations Championship, Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has delivered some good news on the injury front.

Following an impressive and hard-fought win over Cardiff on Saturday, Leinster props Cian Healy and Mike Ross return to the Ireland squad. This is a big boost considering Ireland were destroyed at scrum-time in Paris.

Ross is Ireland’s first choice tighthead, and he will stabilise the set-piece on Saturday. Meanwhile, Healy’s return adds competition on the other side of the scrum, although he may not start ahead of Jack McGrath. Nonetheless, ‘Church’, who signed a new contract with the IRFU last week, will add serious impact off the bench in the second half.
