Joe Marler may have further questions to answer.
Although many expected Joe Marler to be swiftly banned following his ‘gypsy boy’ comment during England’s Six Nations victory over Wales, the loose head prop survived immediate sanction.
However, since the Six Nations cleared Marler of any wrong doing, World Rugby have confirmed that the Harlequins player will face a misconducted hearing.
While it is not yet clear whether or not Marler will face a ban in the aftermath of the hearing, it now seems as if the evidence levelled against the 42 times capped England international has grown, after the Mail on Sunday reported that a video has emerged of Marler telling Samson Lee to ‘Ey you, gypsy boy! Yeah, get back in your caravan, ey, yes! You! Yes, go on!’
The Mail claim that footage of the incident was examined by a lip reading expert who expanded on what was originally picked up on the referes’ microphone.
If the claim is proven to be correct, Marler will no doubt find himself in trouble, not only with World Rugby, but with the RFU who have so far defended vigorously.
