Premiership Rugby’s Chief Executive, Mark McCafferty, has claimed that the Aviva Premiership is the best league in the World.
While being questioned by The Telegraph as to the current negotiations between the RFU and Premiership Rugby over the future release of England Internationals, Mark McCafferty stated that he believed the Aviva Premiership to be the ‘best club league in the world’.
Although this statement can be somewhat subjective, McCafferty is simply wrong in the manner in which he came to such a conclusion.
McCafferty based his argument on the number of Premiership players appearing at the World. Although he correctly pointed out that 90 players plying their trade in the Premiership will appear at the tournament, two more than the Top 14, he did not account for the Pro 12 which will provide 107 players.

Indeed when you consider that no English side has won the European Cup since 2007, McCafferty’s original point also comes under scrutiny.
