Ireland Cruise Past Germany In Dominant Olympic Qualifying Showdown

Ireland’s sevens team made easy work of an outclassed German side to book their place in the semi-final and edge closer to earning their spot at the Olympics.

Ireland 21 – 0 Germany

After the women sevens team were handed a defeat the hands of the English earlier today to see their Olympic dreams crumble, the pressure was well and truly on Anthony Eddy’s men heading into their matchup with Germany.

A Jordan Conroy try with two minutes left on the clock was enough to see the Irish leave the first-half behind them in pole position and another try just after the break saw them extend their lead to 14-0 before their third and final score saw them walk out 21-0 leaders.

Overall it was a strong and polished display from the Irish – one that saw them encounter very little in the way of adversity to overcome and now, with a spot in the semi-finals booked, their hopes of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Tokyo remain stronger than ever before.

After a pair of opening wins against Ukraine and Russia, Ireland were forced to take home a draw against Spain after fighting their way from a 17-0 deficit at half-time.

Now firmly reestablished in the win column, momentum will be on their side as they continue their assault on the top honours.
