Joe Schmidt’s day could be compounded with yet more bad news.
The Irish Times are this evening reporting that Robbie Henshaw is a ‘real concern’ ahead of Ireland’s series decider with South Africa next weekend.
Henshaw was is noticeable discomfort as the game drew to a conclusion, and was seen receiving treatment on his knee.
Although the extent of the injury is not yet known, his loss would represent a serious blow to Ireland’s chances of winning the three match test series next weekend.
Consequently, Irish fans face an anxious wait, after Joe Schmidt revealed Henshaw’s knee is “It’s a little bit inflamed, so it’s going to take probably 24 hours for the swelling to go down before we can get a decent look at it. We’ll just see how that goes”.
Henshaw was particularly effective in defence against South Africa, stripping the ball from the much vaunted, Damian de Allende, during the first half.
While Irish fans will no doubt hope Henshaw can shake off the injury, Schmidt may otherwise be forced to call in a replacement or potentially moved either Keith Earls of Jared Payne into the number 13 jersey.
