Although few outside of France will have heard of Walid Maamry, they soon will after the 17 year-old monster was included in Les Bleus under 20s squad.
The Toulon academy prop weighs in at a massive 160kg, or 25 stone 2lbs in old money, which would make him the world’s heaviest player if he were a professional. Standing at 6’7″ tall, Maamry is built like a human bowling ball, and has been compared to Uini Atonio, who weighs in at a slender 155kg, or 24 st 6 lb, by comparison.
Of course, Maamry may loose much of this “puppy fat” over the course of the next few years, but in the meantime, he will be sent out on a mission to decimate rival under 20s forward packs.
Perhaps the most frightening aspect of this is the fact that Maamry will mark his 18th birthday in the midst of the under 20 Championship on March 24, giving him plenty of time to develop into a powerful athlete that stands ready to blow away all comers in years to come.
Plus impressionnant qu’Atonio (197cm, 142kg) ? Si, si, c possible ! Je vous présente le pilier du RCT (U18) Maamry Walid (199cm, 160kg) ! pic.twitter.com/kMVbx72Ob4
