Ian Madigan Has Asked To Leave Bordeaux-Begles [Report]

Irish out-half Ian Madigan has been a controversial omission from Joe Schmidt’s Six Nations squad. Injuries to Jonathan Sexton and Joey Carbery meant that the Kiwi coach turned to Ian Keatley to act as deputy to Paddy Jackson in Rome last week. Madigan was perfectly fit, but due to the IRFU’s overseas policy, the former Leinster man was not considered.

Madigan has started brightly in the southwest of France since his move last summer, but has been forced to be satisfied with limited game-time as he battles with Lionel Beauxis for the starting out-half position.

Indeed, the return of Sexton to the RDS was believed to be the reason for Madigan’s departure, so it is understandably frustrating that he has not yet nailed down a consistent starting berth in Bordeaux.

According to reports in Midi Olympique this morning, the Irishman wants to leave the Top 14 club. However, Ireland fans should not get too excited, as it is reported that the 27-year-old sees the Premiership as his destination.
