How Did This Blatant Stamp Only Warrant A Yellow Card?

Tasman’s tight head prop, Ross Geldenhuys, stamped on Bay of Plenty’s scrum half Jono Kitto

Although there was little to report from Tasman’s 43-13 win over Bay of Plenty in the ITM Cup, one incident has stood out from the game.

With the score standing at 7-0 to Tasman after ten minutes of play, the referee penalised one of the Bay of Plenty players for not releasing.

Tasman prop, Ross Geldenhuys, then went in search of the ball and when Jono Kitto would not give it up, Geldenhuys threw the Bay of Plenty scrum half to the floor before stamping on his knee.

The referee asked for the stamp to be reviewed by the TMO, and despite clearing viewing the incident on the big screen, only issued a yellow card.

A lenient decision that even seemed to surprise Geldenhuys.
