Rumours have been swirling this past week over the future of Harlequins winger Marland Yarde, with suggestions that he was destined for Sale Sharks.

Today, the London club confirmed that the Saint Lucia native is indeed to join the northern England club with immediate effect.

Yarde joined Quins back in 2014 after four years with London Irish and in the ensuing 81 appearances he made for the club, he scored an impressive 27 tries.

The 25-year-old has been on the fringes of the England squad since 2013 and has earned 13 caps in that time.

According to Harlequins Director of Rugby John Kingston, he permitted the winger to speak with Sale as it was in the best interest of the club.

“Marland is a top player and I have a great relationship with him. We have enjoyed working together over the last three years and I want to thank him for his contribution to the Club and wish him well for the future.

“He’s played really well for us this year, but the decision for Harlequins to allow Marland to speak to Sale was made because I felt it was in the best interest of the Club. Every decision I make is with the intention of doing the right thing for Harlequins football club, and that’s the way it will always be.”

Yarde’s future at the club has been under scrutiny this term following a number of absences from training, including the captain’s run this past Saturday before Quins’ Champions Cup clash with Wasps.

With his lucrative contract due to expire at the end of the season, it appears that a parting of ways has been agreed and Yarde will now look for a new start with the Sharks.
