Gloucester Confirm The Signing Of Owen Williams

Gloucester have confirmed the signing of Wales hopeful Owen Williams next season after the player agreed to personal terms with the club.

After signing for the Tigers from the Scarlets in 2013, Williams has amassed over 500 points during his time at Welford Road with the versatile inside back following forwards Carl Fearns, Fraser Balmain and Val Rapava Ruskin to the Kingsholm next season.

Gloucester Director of Rugby David Humphreys said that he was delighted to secure the services of Williams next season and that the player has genuine ambitions to play international rugby in the future.

“I am delighted that Owen will be joining Gloucester at the end of the season, and I’m sure the supporters will look forward to his competition with Billy Burns for the fly-half starting spot,” Humphreys told The Telegraph.

“Top teams throughout Europe have two quality number 10s, and Owen’s experience with Leicester in both the Premiership and Europe will add some real quality and depth to a key position in our playing squad.

“He is still a young man with a real ambition to play international rugby, and we all believe that Owen has the ability to play a central role in driving Gloucester forward.”

Williams will join Welsh compatriots Richard Hibbard and Ross Moriarty at the club with outhalf James Hook to rejoin the Ospreys next season.
