***Update*** Police Scotland have since confirmed that French players were actually being interviewed as “potential witnesses” after reports of an incident in Edinburgh in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police in Edinburgh have grounded a plane scheduled to carry the France rugby squad back home following their NatWest Six Nations defeat to Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday and have taken a number of Jacques Brunel’s players in for questioning.

The French Rugby Federation confirmed earlier today that members of the squad were being questioned by the authorities but provided no further information at that time.

Chris Foy of the Daily Mail has since reported, however, that the police are speaking to the players as part of an investigation into an alleged brawl in Edinburgh on Sunday night. Foy added that some of those players are “understood to be injured.”

France got off to a great start against the Scots, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead and they were ahead 20-14 at the break, but a spirited fightback from Gregor Townsend’s men, which was aided by French indiscipline, turned things around in the second half and the hosts ran out winners by a scoreline of 32-26. A perfect kicking display from Greg Laidlaw accounted for 22 of Scotland’s 32 points.

Winless after two games, France currently sit second from bottom in the NatWest Six Nations standings, only ahead of Italy on points difference.
