Former England Lock’s Attempt At Trolling The Wallabies Backfires Spectacularly

Following the news that Wallabies flanker Sean McMahon is set to leave the Melbourne Rebels and embark on new rugby adventures in Japan, former England and Wasps lock Simon Shaw figured he would get witty on Twitter.

McMahon will now likely miss the 2019 Rugby World Cup as he becomes ineligible while he is playing his club rugby outside of Australia.

While the Sunday Morning Herald report that McMahon has signed a two-year contract with an as of yet unnamed club, he could exercise an option to return in time for the World Cup.

The loss of McMahon is seen as a blow to the Wallabies and it was all too much for the former England second row to take, as he took to Twitter to jest about Australia’s loss.

It wasn’t long before Shaw’s reasonably blunt trolling efforts were met with an altogether sharper retort from none other than Toulon’s Drew Mitchell.

Mitchell’s evisceration of Shaw and, by extension, England Rugby, failed to draw a follow up from Shaw but it did manage to tweak the interest of another former England great.

Unwilling to be bested, Mitchell took aim at the former England captain and fires off a more personal salvo in his direction.

Their little Twitter spat stepped up a notch as Carling dropped the emojis and went ‘full troll’.

Failing to draw Mitchell back for a follow-up, maturity once again took over and the spat came to an end.

It seems, however, that despite enjoying their retirement, the famous on-field rivalries between England and Australia continues to live on for Carling and Shaw.
