Anthony Watson Suffers Hamstring Injury During Portugal Training Camp

England RBS 6 Nations Squad announcement

Eddie Jones and England have been hit with yet another injury setback ahead Six Nations.

Already without Joe Marler, Mako Vunipola, Billy Vunipola, Chris Robshaw and possibly James Haskell for their Championship opener against France, Eddie Jones might also have to plan for the enforced absence of Anthony Watson.

According to The Telegraph, the winger suffered a hamstring injury during England’s training camp in Portugal, and is set to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage on Saturday.

While nothing has yet been confirmed, thoughts will now turn to a possible replacement, with Jonny May and Semesa Rokoduguni obvious candidate to fill in for Watson following their performances during England’s autumn series.

News of any possible injury will be particularly devastating for Watson, who only recently recovered from the broken jaw he sustained during England’s contentious training camp in Brighton last October.

Indeed, Jones had hinted at the possibility of selecting Watson at fullback at some point during the course of the Championship, raising the prospect of England fielding an exciting back three that could have also included two of May, Rokoduguni, Jack Nowell and Elliot Daly.
