England Star Set To Leave Toulon

England could see the return of a high profile overseas based player.

In the aftermath of England’s disastrous World Cup campaign, many criticised the RFU’s policy of not selecting overseas based players.

While many fans hoped that Twickenham bosses would row back on the policy after employing Eddie Jones, they were left disappointed, when the new England coach reaffirmed the RFU’s position immediately after being appointed.

Nevertheless, it appears that Premiership clubs have been alerted to the availability of Delon Armitage. With Japan’s Ayumu Goromaru being heavily linked with a move to Toulon and Leigh Halfpenny now set to remain at the French giants, La Provence have reported that  Armitage’s contract will not be renewed this summer.

Although Lyon were interested in the English full back, La Provence previously stated that Armitage would join the ambitious Pro D2 club, and as a result, garnered the interest of a number of Premiership sides.

Gavin Mortimer also tweeted that the 26 times capped England international could be set to leave Toulon at the end of the season, adding that Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe could also be on his way out of the Stade Mayol.

While many fans would like to see Armitage at their club, at 32 years of age, the full back’s best days maybe behind him.
